The home tour is our neighborhood association’s only fund raiser and proceeds benefit our neighborhood projects and annual get-togethers and enable us to make financial contributions to Lamar Elementary School, Lion’s Field, The Botanical Center, and The Fisher House at Fort Sam Houston.
Months of planning and hard work are involved in this effort, but in the end it’s enjoyable for everyone involved. The homeowners who graciously open their houses to the public find it rewarding to hear all the compliments about their accomplishments! Every year one of the homes on the tour is featured in the Lifestyle section of the San Antonio Express News.
Would you like to be involved in this effort? Here are a number of ways to help:
- Let us feature your home on the tour! Lining up the six homes is the most important aspect of each tour, and the sooner we can get that done, the better. Your home doesn’t have to be “perfect.” Sometimes homeowners still have some work under construction, or decide to close off certain rooms in their houses. That’s okay.
- If you own a business, offer to be a sponsor for the tour, and have your business acknowledged in a number of ways. Both cash contributions and goods or services are most helpful. Although ticket sales bring in a large portion of the revenue, the sponsorships are equally important.
- Help us sell tickets both prior to the tour, and on the day of the tour itself. Advance ticket sales are a “bird in the hand!”
- Offer to volunteer as a docent at one of the homes on the tour. This is a big help to the homeowners, and gives them an opportunity to leave their own homes for an hour or so and see the other homes on the tour.
